Competitive Landscape Analysis
Value hypothesis
Plots a first-pass competitive map, including adjacent actors and less-known entrants, so teams can focus on enrichment and understanding rather than research effort.
Velocity · Insight
The researcher or designer prompts an LLM with parameters regarding product category, market space, target audience and geography to generate an overview of key competitors, new entrants, and other relevant factors. Quality depends on training data and supplemental context. Iteration is used to close gaps, direct deeper analysis, and increase precision of desired criteria.
Risks in application
Shallow Solutions
The overview appears complete but has systematic blindspots; established players may be absent while obscure ones are included, creating a distorted picture of the market.
Bias Bleed
Training data skews toward English- language and digitally prominent companies, and reflects the market only up to the model's knowledge cutoff date; regional players, offline businesses, and competitors that emerged after that date are structurally invisible to the model.
Expertise that differentiates
Research and Insight
Knowing which competitors and adjacent are relevant, evaluating market coverage, and identifying what is absent. Being able to select and transfer strategic context, customer knowledge, and other context useful to the scan.
Business Framing
Describing the need in terms of the specific strategic or design decision being made, and articulating the open questions touching features, value propositions or positioning for which answers are sought.
AI Fluency that assures
Platform Awareness
Proactively managing blindspots in the training material or model coverage; compensating through active context engineering (e.g. providing additional studies or internal documents).
