Design Critique

Value hypothesis

Provides structured design review on demand, identifying issues the designer may be too close to see so the work can be strengthened before human review.

Quality · Velocity

The designer presents a concept, in the form of mockups, narrative, or functional descriptions, and asks the AI to evaluate it against user needs, design principles, business requirements, or competing products. The AI reports back with potential issues it identified, ranging from usability to feature completeness, and possible solutions to pursue. The designer reviews the findings, accepting valid challenges for rework, or ignoring misapplied ones.

Risks in application

Bias Bleed

May identify issues with apparent rigor and specificity while missing the most consequential problems, or flagging non-problems. A critique that seems rigorous may create false confidence that the design has been properly vetted, while serious issues remain.

Shallow Solutions

Completing an AI design assessment may be mistaken for genuine design review; teams may advance concepts based on AI critique without the depth of evaluation that expert human review provides.

Expertise that differentiates

Research and Insight

Distinguishing substantive design problems from cosmetic or preference-based observations.

Business Framing

Deciding which issues pose legitimate risks to user and business success, vs. those which appear are technically valid but strategically inconsequential.

AI Fluency that assures

Performance Description

Including the business outcomes and user goals the design is meant to serve in the criteria specification, so AI-identified issues are strategically consequential rather than technically valid but immaterial.

Creation Diligence

Describing the criteria and the product precisely produces substantive criticism, while framing against general UX principles produces generic critique.
